The event was attended by Defense Minister Kristof Szalai-Bobrovnicki, who emphasized the strategic importance of the acquisition in strengthening the Hungarian Armed Forces’ tactical operational capabilities. According to the minister, the arrival of the KC-390 Millennium will significantly enhance the Air Force’s transport capacity, allowing for precise air assault operations involving cargo and paratrooper drops.

“The KC-390 also offers a crucial medical evacuation capability, being able to transport and treat sick and injured personnel, which reinforces its versatility in military operations,” the Ministry of Defense stated.
The new aircraft, bearing tail number “610” and the inscription “Hungarian Air Force,” will complement the fleet at Kecskemét Air Base, which already includes A319-112 and Falcon 7X aircraft. Hungary placed an order for two KC-390 models in 2020, with production starting in 2021. Initially, deliveries were scheduled for 2023 and 2024, but due to delays from the manufacturer Embraer, the deliveries were rescheduled for the second half of 2024 and 2025.
The KC-390 Millennium has drawn significant attention from several European countries due to its efficiency and advanced technology. Besides Hungary, nations such as Portugal, the Netherlands, Austria, and the Czech Republic have also acquired the model, and other countries are considering doing the same.
